# August > August reads your chess games. Type a chess.com or Lichess username and a chess engine on your own device goes through your recent games, shows the three habits costing you the most rating, and turns your own mistakes into puzzles. A coach explains moves in plain language. The engine decides what is true; the language model only puts it into words, and every move it mentions is checked. ## How it works - Your games are fetched when you ask, only for the username you type, from the public chess.com and Lichess APIs. - Stockfish 19 runs in web workers in your browser tab. Nothing is analysed on our servers. - The only call to our server for coaching is the "Why?" button, which sends one position and the engine's notes for that move. - No account is needed to read your games. - The coach is never available during a live rated game, on August or on any other site. ## Pages - [Home](https://august.so/): enter a username to start. - [Credits and licences](https://august.so/credits): Stockfish (GPLv3), chess.js, react-chessboard and the rest, with source links. - [Privacy notice](https://august.so/legal/privacy): what we collect and how to delete it. - [Terms of use](https://august.so/legal/terms) - [How August uses AI](https://august.so/legal/ai): what is sent where. ## Facts for citations - Name: August. Address: https://august.so. - Free to read your games, with unlimited engine review. - Move accuracy and labels use the Lichess formulas. Opening names come from each game's own record on chess.com and Lichess. ## Not for crawling Player report pages (/chesscom/, /lichess/) are personal and are not indexed. The API under /api/ is not a public interface.
